Name: Gwendolyn Clague
Nickname?: Wendy
Age: 18 (March 14, 1997)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Personality: On the outside, Wendy does not seem like someone you could just go up and talk to. In fact, she's a little introverted (as most of my characters tend to be. Original, right?) But that doesn't make her antisocial - she tends to have a curiosity about others, but never goes any further... except in the case of Adrian Whitman.
Looks:
God parent: Hecate
Power(s)?: Particularly skilled in sorcery and druidism.
Backstory: Gwendolyn "Wendy" Clague was born in Newark, New Jersey, to a gypsy immigrant from the Isle of Man (between Britain and Ireland) named Murdoch Clague. Because Murdoch held some "odd" jobs, the father and daughter had to suffer through poverty in the poorer district, barely scraping by on government checks and faux fortune telling.
The criticisms that Murdoch received began to grate on Wendy over the years, causing her to become slightly ashamed of her father. During her periods of grief, she would sit outside in the small garden and stare at the dead seeds, until sprouts began to form. Having not been out of her house (homeschooling was another of Murdoch's "trades"), Wendy figured this was a normal thing to do... until her father caught her performing the act.
Murdoch's mood shifted as soon as he caught wind of his daughter performing magic. He had no other choice but to tell Wendy the truth - her mother was Hecate, Greek goddess of magic. A camp for demigods much like her was up north in New York, and now that she was aware, it would do her good to stay up there.
Wendy was more than happy to take that offer. Staying in Newark would spell death either by monsters or insanity. She was excited to take a break from her father and escape her life, not to mention meet other kids. She was eight when she was sent to Camp Half-Blood, and has been there only 5 months before Adrian arrived.
Strengths:
- Common ground: Wendy gets along better with people that have troubled family pasts. She is more comfortable with people she can relate to, basically.
- In her blood: Wendy really does come from a magical family... magic just hasn't been prominent within the bloodline for the past 75 years. Perhaps a little godlike boost was what's needed to push it along....
- Smart all around: As well as being a gifted magician, Wendy is skilled in other areas of academics, including Greek history and language, mathematics, and some sciences. Her thirst for knowledge was unfortunately not quenched by Murdoch.
Weaknesses:
- Strong, silent type: Wendy doesn't normally open herself up to others, especially since she was socialized in such an awkward and late fashion, not to mention her history.
- "How do I use this ???": She's uh, not that good with hand to hand combat. She'd rather stick to her staff.
- nope nope nope nope nope: Wendy hates bugs... mainly ones that can bite. Or sting. Or both. Thank Gods she knows druidism, so most tend to stay away from her.
Weapon(s): An ancient, elm staff that was mailed to her on her 9th birthday. There's Celtic writing on the side, but she has yet to decipher it.
Other?: Wendy is fluent in Manx, and uses it in some of her spells.
I'm sorry. I really felt I needed to put this shark here. My impulse control at 4AM doesn't exist. I might have to put it in my sig later.
Now to start working on my gay Athena character. This'll be an experiment. Wish me luck.
